Senior Water and Stormwater Engineer

About the business and the role

Ardill Payne & Partners is a progressive and dynamic multi-disciplinary consultancy comprising Civil and Structural Engineers, Surveyors, Town Planners, and Project Managers. We have been in operation for over 35 years on the North Coast of NSW and more recently in the Central West of NSW. Local and national clients include regional Councils, State Government agencies, multi-nationals, to local developers and private owners.

The opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Water and Stormwater Engineer. In this role you will assist our other civil team members in preparation of stormwater management plans, flood assessments, and water & sewer network designs. You will mainly be involved in land development projects with frequent opportunities to use your skills in road drainage designs. On any day you could be preparing a stormwater management plan report, drainage design, 2d hydraulic modelling with frequent opportunities for work outside of the office for site inspections and meetings.

You will work in a local fast-growing community who value technical expertise and innovation. You will apply practical on-the-ground problem solving and engineering solutions and work with our clients collaboratively to deliver successful outcomes. You will report to the principal civil team leader and, if desired, have the opportunity to lead projects, manage work-winning activities and prepare successful tenders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) investigation and MUSIC modelling
  • Undertake hydrologic and hydraulic modelling for a wide range of studies including flood impact assessments, flood mapping, floodplain management, and risk mitigation
  • Work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams to support the delivery of design solutions that meet client and community expectations
  • Maintain an interest in technological advances and applying innovation to project delivery
  • Develop strong relationships with our clients
  • Produce technical models and reports to a high standard, contributing to delivery of quality project outputs.

About you

You will have at least 5 years’ experience in relevant positions. You will be a skilled technical professional who wants to continue to progress their career.

You will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Experience in projects with WSUD undertakings including subdivisions and using software MUSIC
  • Experience in hydrological and hydraulic modelling using DRAINS and TUFLOW
  • Solid experience with QGIS application
  • Water and Sewer network design experience, competency in using EPANet2 software, design of pump stations and treatment plants will be highly regarded.
  • Experience or a desire to develop skills in bid preparation and project management
  • Experience working on NSW projects is preferred however not essential
  • Experience with CAD and CIVIL 3D applications would be beneficial

Senior Civil Engineer

Job tasks and responsibilities

The successful candidate’s role will have a strong emphasis on design, and the management of projects and design teams. The candidate will be required to:

  • undertake civil engineering design, review, and project management for a wide range of projects including land development and other civil infrastructure
  • manage client relationships on allocated projects
  • conduct site inspections
  • manage design projects from inception through to completion within agreed timeframes and budgets
  • work effectively and harmoniously with all levels of staff and management
  • prepare high quality proposals, reports, documents, and other deliverables.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 7 years’ practical design experience in an Australian consulting environment
  • Familiarity with local authority and state government approval and regulatory requirements
  • Ability to network, maintain, and build professional relationships
  • Ability to lead and manage staff and collaborate with other disciplines across the organisation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Desirable:

  • Professional registration (CPEng)
  • Extensive experience in surface water modelling and management, and the design of stormwater, sewer, and water reticulation in urban developments
  • Experience in DRAINS, MUSIC, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, XP-RAFTS
  • Design/draft skills using AutoCAD and Civil 3D

Senior Civil Designer

We are centrally based in Ballina, NSW, and have been in operation for over 35 years on the North Coast and more recently in the Central West of NSW. Local and national clients include regional Councils, State Government agencies, multi-nationals, to local developers and private owners.

Job tasks and responsibilities

We are offering a full-time position for a highly motivated individual to join our Civil Engineering team. The successful candidate will be afforded the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, including rural and urban road upgrades, residential subdivisions, and commercial and industrial developments. Candidates must have relevant formal qualifications in Civil Engineering, and at least 10 years' experience in civil design & drafting of roads, subdivisions, stormwater drainage, sewer reticulation, and water supply. Further opportunities exist to expand into project management.

Skills and experience

Must be a self-starter and proficient in the use of the following design and drafting software:

  • AutoCAD
  • Civil 3D is preferred, but 12D candidates will be considered for retraining
